Marriage Poem

Marriage is something you are expected to do.
Do you want to be lonely?
Have someone there for you?
All the hard work
trying to find the one
who makes you happy
and the one will fill that emptiness

Going through the same routine
getting married somewhere exotic,
renting the motel room where everyone
know whats gunna happen.

Do you want to be just another
or do you want to stand out and do something bold?!
spending all that money on
something that might not work out anyway.

Making sure the parents like you
Not asking where the bathroom is
Having a firm handshake and
presenting yourself well.

Would you rather be lonely or
with someone that you dont like
but you at least have
someone to be with?

thought on Holden after 18 chapters

Now that i have read these last chapters i have come to the conclusion that Holden really doesnt care about what anybody else thinks of him. He will go to these extreme measures to get a date with Sally and then he starts thinking she is sort of phony and get mad at her and tells her that "she is a pain in the ass". After saying that to Sally she got really mad and upset with him. He thought that she was just going to let it bounce off her. He starts saying he is sorry and she really doesnt want to hear it. Then he tries to get back on her good side but in the end she just leaves. I thought that he didnt care about any of the relationships that he build with most people he just wants something to do before he has to go back home to face his parents. He is very selfish and doesnt think of others feelings before he acts. this shows me that even though he want people to take him as a mature man he is still immature.

When I was reading the chapters 16-18 i came across a part when he was waiting for Sally to show up for their date then right when she gets there he thinks she is so beautiful. while he is still in awe of her beauty he tell her that "he loves her". Then right after he said this he told us that he was crazy and he knew it. Right when he said that it hit me that he knew that he wasnt like everyone else and that really didnt stop him. This might be the reason why he thinks everyone is phony and he hates most people that he meets. This matters because for the entire time that i have been reading this book i have been wondering if there is something wrong with Holden mentally but now that i have read this i know that he thinks he is crazy and doesnt care.

I think that Holden is mature in some ways because he goes to this hotel all by himself and has this entire adventure on his own. Then he goes down to the club not thinking he was going to do anything he just was really bored. Then he comes accros those three girls and thinks to himself that just for the fun of it he would ask the blonde one to dance. While they are dancing he thinks that she is a really good dancer. He said she kept looking all around the room like she was expecting somebody to come. Then Holden thought it would be funny to mess with them because he thinks that he is more intelligent then these ladies and so he tells them that someone famous had just walked through the door and that they just missed him. To me this is a childish act because just that you are smarter than someone doesnt mean you have to rub it in their faces.

After reading chapters 1-6 I thought that Holden was someone who thought that he was the best role model for everyone but then at the same time he acts so childish. I think he did have the right to be mad when Stradlater ripped up his paper and threw it away. I think any other person would have just left the room and moved on but Holden started yelling at him and getting in his face. Then Stradlater punched him right in the mouth, while Holden was on the ground he was still yelling at him and making him even more mad. That showed me that he did have much respect for anyone and he was a lot more childish than I thought. Then when I read chapters 9-11 I found out that Holden was a little more grown up than i had first thought. He was dancing with those women and even though he was telling them that celeberities had just walked through the door and messing with them he seemed knid of grown up.
